Project Overview: DALI4US

The project “Data Literacy in Upper Primary Education” (DALI4US) is dedicated to equipping primary school teachers with the essential confidence, knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to effectively teach data literacy. This initiative is aimed at fostering an educational environment where data literacy is an integral part of the curriculum, preparing students to navigate and thrive in a data-driven world.

Project Aims

The primary aim of DALI4US is to raise awareness among primary school teachers about the importance of data literacy. The project seeks to enhance their teaching competencies by providing them with the appropriate technological and pedagogical tools, along with professional training. This comprehensive support system will enable teachers to confidently incorporate data literacy into their classrooms, thus preparing students to become informed and responsible citizens in a digital society.

Project Goals

Early Introduction to Data Literacy:

Introduce data literacy to upper primary school students (ages 10 to 12) to cultivate critical thinking and develop problem-solving skills through understanding real-world issues via data.

Empowering Teachers:

Equip primary school teachers with the necessary confidence, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to teach data literacy effectively.

Comprehensive and Interdisciplinary Approach:

Provide a holistic and interdisciplinary framework for teaching data literacy, specifically designed for primary school students aged 10-12.

Tailored Framework Development:

Develop a data literacy framework that is specifically tailored to meet the needs of upper primary school students.

Adaptation of Orange Data Mining Software:

Adapt the Orange Data Mining software to suit the educational requirements of primary schools, ensuring it is accessible and user-friendly across various platforms.

Professional Training Programs:

Create and implement professional development programs for teachers and school leaders, enabling them to effectively integrate data literacy into their teaching practices.

Defining Data Literacy

Through these efforts, DALI4US aspires to build a foundation where data literacy is recognized and valued as a critical competency for the future, ensuring that students are well-equipped to make informed decisions in a data-rich environment.
