In Slovenia, the innovative classroom activities and approaches in data literacy were presented in November at the Knowledge Network Conference (Mreža znanja 2025) to over 700 participants from the fields of education, digitalization, and open science.

Ana Farič from the University of Ljubljana gave a talk titled What can gnomes and candies teach us about artificial intelligence (Kaj nas o umetni inteligenci lahko naučijo palčki in bomboni?).

The title of her talk is connected to two learning scenarios developed within the project DALI4US that help teachers enrich their lessons with AI topics. Four of these activities are being piloted by teachers in Ireland, Luxembourg, and Slovenia.

Together with their students over 30 teachers in each of the three countries are exploring

  • recommender systems,
  • clustering,
  • predictive models, and
  • reinforcement learning
in a fun and playful way using gnomes, cartoons, climographs, and games.

You can find the four activities with the accompanying learning materials at https://gairdin.eu/.
