A planning workshop was held in Portlaoise, Ireland, between the H2 Learning and Oide teams as part of the DALI4US needs analysis on data literacy in upper primary schools.

The workshop with Prof. Aisling Leavy from Mary Immaculate College in Limerick as the guest speaker focused on the role of data literacy within the primary curriculum and the key competencies teachers need to focus on.

The team discussed the role and identified key competencies. The team discussed the importance of engaging learners with societal issues to develop their digital citizenship and data literacy skills from a young age. The workshop is the first step in developing a data literacy framework for DALI4US which will enhance technological and pedagogical skills, critical thinking, and confidence in data literacy among upper primary students.

Aisling Leavy is Head of School at Mary Immaculate College Teacher Education College and specializes in children’s mathematical thinking, STEM education, statistical thinking and reasoning and statistical literacy. She has extensive experience in developing innovative teaching methods to enhance data literacy and critical thinking skills in primary education and is an advisor to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment in Ireland.
