This was the second time the computer and data science professors and researchers Blaž Zupan and Janez Demšar from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, met with the Luxembourgish and Irish primary school teachers for a teacher training workshop on data literacy education in upper primary school.

In Luxembourg, the workshop was hosted by SCRIPT (the Luxembourgish Ministry of National Education, Childhood and Youth), and together with a group of upper primary school teachers, Janez and Blaž examined ideas, approaches, and concrete learning scenarios developed in the DALI4US project, that teachers can use and adapt to introduce data exploration into primary school classrooms.

The teachers in the workshop, most of whom teach mathematics and physics, experimented with the scenario on recommender systems. In the hands-on activity, students learn the principles behind how such systems work. The topic, which can be their favourite cartoons, TV series, books, musicians, or similar, makes the activity fun and engaging. In Luxembourg, the topic we chose was sitcoms. It was great!
